Abstract

Extremism has been defined as a quality of human beings contrary to patience, tolerance and moderation which are the qualities universally recognized as hall mark of a decent and reasonable person: Islamic teachings are so clear and manifest in this regard, that its very little literally means, peace.

According to Quran, Islam is a faith of moderation and Muslims are demanded to be patient and to exercise self control in the state of anger.

Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) demonstrated extra ordinary compassion, understanding & forgiveness in dealing with all human beings including his arch-enemies, and persecutors.

The paper describes in detail the teachings of Quran and the Prophet (P.B.U.H) in relation to intolerance and extremism and conclusively argues that the moderation is the hall-mark of the teachings of Prophet (P.B.U.H).
