Abstract

No land man, Dr. Hamidullah (d. 2002) is one of the greatest Muslim scholars of present century. His devotion towards research, teaching, writing, compilation and preaching of Islam, proved his multidimensional personality and work as well.
The family he belonged is "NAWAYT", a branch of the most prominent tribe of "QURAYSH", Ancestors of Dr. Hamidullah migrated from Arabia to India during first century Hijrah/sixth century AD. Many members of this Nawayt family played important role in military, Judiciary and Literary circle of India. This article would cover their political, social and cultural role in Indian and Islamic History.
