Abstract

Travelogue literature is good way to know about different places. Travelers face many incidents and accidents for which we have no approach in general books. A tourist presents a real picture of the society and the life of visited place. Iraq has been particularly prominent in the world and especially in the Arab world. Many famous religious personalities belong to this area. Iraq has been the center of knowledge and culture for many decades. Its capital Baghdad has been a place for many Muslim scholars. In addition to its geographical, scientific, religious and historical significance, Iraq contributed much to promote Arabic language. Thousands of books of different languages and culture translated to Arabic before and after Abbasid Caliphate and thus contributed to Arabic language more than anyone else contributed. Due to its importance, many travelers traveled to this city during different times and wrote about it. This article will focus Baghdad in travelogues written by many tourists focusing on their customs, manners, civilization, ethics, literature and culture during different eras. Different writers had written travelogues with their own point of view and most of them had presented the political, cultural and sociological studies with reference to ancient Islamic civilization.
